چکیده
The iridescence of structural color and its polarization characteristics originate from the nanoscale organization materials. A major challenge in materials science is generating bright, lustrous hues seen nature through engineering, while simultaneously controlling interaction material with different light polarizations. In this work, a suitable chiral nematic liquid crystal elastomer ink synthesized for direct writing, which self-assembles into photonic structure. Tuning writing direction speed leads to programmed formation slanted axis, exhibits atypical selectivity. After crosslinking, freely programmable, chiroptical polymer obtained. strongly perspective-dependent appearance can function as specialized anticounterfeit markers, optical elements decorative iridescent coatings, or, demonstrated here, optically based signaling features.

Anisotropic resonant scattering from polymer photonic crystals.
Hyperspectral goniometry reveals anisotropic scattering which dominates the visual appearance of self-assembled polymer opals. The technique allows reconstruction of the reciprocal-space of nanostructures, and indicates that chain defects formed during shear-ordering are responsible for the anisotropy in these samples. Enhanced scattering with improving order is shown to arise from increased ef...
متن کاملPolarization Stop Bands in Chiral Polymeric Three-Dimensional Photonic Crystals
Chiral 3D photonic crystals are an interesting subclass of 3D photonic crystals. For example, large complete 3D photonic bandgaps have been predicted for high-index-contrast silicon square-spiral structures; corresponding experiments using glancing-incidence deposition, interference lithography, or direct laser writing have been published. In addition to complete gaps or stop bands, theory also...
متن کاملThree-dimensional imaging of direct-written photonic structures.
Third-harmonic generation microscopy has been used to analyze the morphology of photonic structures created using the femtosecond laser direct-write technique. Three-dimensional waveguide arrays and waveguide-Bragg gratings written in fused-silica and doped phosphate glass were investigated. A sensorless adaptive-optical system was used to correct the optical aberrations occurring in the sample...
متن کاملIridescence from photonic crystals and its suppression in butterfly scales.
Regular three-dimensional periodic structures have been observed in the scales of over half a dozen butterfly species. We compare several of these structures: we calculate their photonic bandgap properties; measure the angular variation of the reflection spectra; and relate the observed iridescence (or its suppression) to the structures. We compare the mechanisms for iridescence suppression in ...
